It is easy to handle, but has quite a few "bells and whistles", so I am still learning. It takes wonderful pictures, and the 10x wide angle zoom (one of the main reasons I bought this camera) has been wonderful. I reviewed many websites and written articles, including Consumer Reports, before purchasing this camera (it was a replacement for my old digital camera that broke). So far, it has been great. I've taken most of the pics indoors so far, but will be taking some outside soon.
I have 4 different digital cameras ( you have to have the right tool for the job) but if I have to narrow it down to just one to take along with me this is it. Wide angle, better than average zoom, simple to use in iA mode, can tweak things if you want in scene modes.
I'm glad I didn't pay extra for the latest offering in this line. It's small and easy to carry. Video isn't the best, particularly because the camera can't stay focused easily on close action, but other than that I'm happy with the camera. My favorite was the food setting. I bought this camera to take with me on a trip to East Africa that included a trek up Mt Kilimanjaro. It held up well and took reasonable shots where ever I was. There aren't many manual controls, but there are still fun setting to explore.
DO NOT BUY THIS CAMERA or anything from Panasonic because if it breaks for any reason they will not honor warranty. I am semi pro and have Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras that all work better. Even when the camera worked the battery life was awful and the low light weaker than any camera I have ever used. Panasonic the worst ever. Bought in December, stopped working June. I take great care of my equipment and LCD screen internally cracked, sent to Panasonic and they would not honor warranty. Sony, Canon & Nikon service exceptional.
USE IT. Black is always IN.-Screen size. Great zoom, wide screen mode for pics and movies, and easily works with PC and MAC. Like a fax machine.Do you REALLY need it.-Cables cables cables. REALLY. So in came my Panny TZ5k from Amazon. Last year I paid twosixtynine for it and it's been worth every penny.
Finally get quick digital uploads "with" HD video.-Burst mode. Catch that smile or splash :)-Built in shooting modes. Very helpful for all those non digital-camera Guru's.CONS:-Recording bright spots (ie bright light off windows), a thin vertical line appears. Get yourself an SDHC to USB card reader for PC/MAC data transfer. WOW. But you get use to it. Right now.go.
Where did you get that.-Optical Zoom.
At that time, I was sick and tired of bringing my digital camera and camcorder with me everywhere.
I've used it consistently for work and play since purchase.
Very helpful, but stay away from grainy digital zoom.-HD Video.

Save yourself the trouble of finding the transfer cable.My perfect setup includes:- 1ea Panansonic Lumix DMC-TZ5K- 1ea Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader TS8GSDHC6-S5W- 2ea SanDisk 8GB SDHC memory card (Just in case you take too much video)- 1ea Small camera bag w/belt clip/loop or shoulder strap, to fit these items (Day trip)- 1ea Med camera bag with shoulder strap to fit above items and charger (w/e trip)- 1ea 46in+ Panasonic Plasma HDTV with USB or SDHC card reader for quick Photo viewing.Go to town.
My 1yr anniversary just passed with this camera.

Just know that when filming in daylight with lots of reflective lighting.-No view finder.
